A long history, a lot of experience

Aeres was founded in January 2004 from the merger of CAH Dronten University of Applied Sciences (CAH) and Groenhorst College, an institute offering vocational agricultural education. In January 2006 the then called Aeres was expanded with Stoas University of Applied Sciences and Teacher Education andin 2009 with PTC+. The components themselves are much older or brand new.

AERES University of Applied Sciences (Aeres University AS)

Renamed from Vilentum University of Applied Sciences on September 1, 2016.

AERES University of Applied Sciences and Teacher Education is a recent merger of two universities: CAH (agricultural, food and urban programmes, CAH Vilentum exists since 1954) and Stoas Hogeschool (teacher education, Stoas Vilentum since 1981). Now there are three faculties within Aeres University of Applied Sciences offering full-time and part-time education at Diploma, BSc and Master level. 

Aeres University AS has almost 3.000 students. More than 200 of them are international students.

Faculty Aeres University AS Almere

Renamed from Vilentum University of Applied Sciences on September 1, 2016.

Faculty Aeres University AS Almere is located in a urban environment  and focusses on food, healty lifestyle and urban dynamics from bachelor to master.

Aeres University AS emphasizes practice-based skills training and entrepreneurship, and maintains strong links with the private sector to ensure the relevance and applicability of its training programmes.

Faculty Aeres University AS Dronten

Renamed from Vilentum University of Applied Sciences on september 1, 2016.

CAH Vilentum Dronten is the green university of applied sciences for those who are interested in programmes concerning animals, agribusiness, the European union, food chains and food production from bachelor to master.

Dating from 1957, CAH Vilentum Dronten is one of the foremost Dutch agricultural universities of applied sciences and professional education. It offers programmes to national and international students at the level of Bachelor of Honours and Master. The three main educational programmes are:

  • Arable farming and horticultural production and chain management;
  • Animal husbandry production and chain management;
  • Entrepreneurship, management and agri-business.

Faculty Aeres University AS Wageningen

Renamed from Stoas Wageningen I Vilentum University AS on September 1, 2016.

This faculty is the only of its kind in the Netherlands and there are little like it in the world. It is a University AS for teachers, trainers and extension specialists in education and knowledge management in the Netherlands. Stoas Wageningen I Vilentum University AS trains students in becoming professionals in the transfer of knowledge in the field of agriculture (agribusiness), horticulture (floral design and retail, landscaping and gardening), food technology, animal breeding and keeping et cetera.   

Stoas University of applied sciences and teacher education organizes two types of courses:

  1. The European Floral Design Academy (EFDA) is part of the faculty. This academy offers worldwide short term courses in flower arrangement and entrepreneurship.
  2. Co-operation possibilities within projects.

Groenhorst Technical and Vocational Education (TVET)

Called Aeres TVET after August 2017. 

Aeres TVET's core business is post-secondary vocational training for full time and part time students and short courses (practice and theory) for professionals. This institute is offering BTEC-courses on vocational level.

Aeres TVET is located in ten villages / cities in the centre of the Netherlands. It offers programs and courses in all fields related to agriculture, horticulture, and livestock production and chain management, and related areas such as food processing, nutrition, green area management, and nature management.

History

Aeres TVET is the result of many mergers. A few of the 11 colleges were founded before or just after the Second World War and exist already for more than 70 years. One started only ten years ago in Almere. By September 2017 Groenhorst was rearranged into Aeres TVET, Aeres Preparatory Secondary Vocation Education and Aeres Training Centres.


Aeres Tech

Renamed from PTC+AS on October 1, 2016.

Aeres Tech s a leading international training institute specialized in Refrigeration and Engineering. It’s located in Ede, near Wageningen. Aeres Tech offers short term practical training for professionals, either in the Netherlands or on location abroad.

History

Aeres Tech was created in the 1950s for short term practical training courses for students of agricultural secondary schools and agricultural colleges and training of private sector farmers, managers and farm employees. Aeres Techis the successor to the IPC applied training institutes, resulting from a merger between IPC Plant and IPC Livestock. Aeres Tech offered a wide range of courses for national and international students, based on the concept “learning by doing”, in agriculture, horticulture, livestock, chain management, agro-processing, agricultural mechanization, landscaping, natural area management, retail and communication and rural development. It is now rearranged and the remaining centre is focussing on technical subjects that directly or indirectly are linked to the agricultural sector.

Aeres Agri Training Centre Dronten

Aeres Agri Training Centre is a former part of PTC+ which has become an independent component in 2015. It has a working farm with arable land and two types of modern stables for dairy cows and is specialized in agriculture, animal husbandry and horticultare. It offers short term practical training for professionals.

Aeres Training Centre International

The expertise centre Pigs, Poultry and Animal Feed is also a former and now independent part of Aeres Training Centre International (before PTC+). This centre works closely together with the Poulty Expertise Centre which is located on the same grounds.

This separation is only recent so the expertise centre doesn't have a new name yet, nor a website of their own. More information on  Aeres Training Centre International.
